Mental health matters - 2 May 2018

Wednesday 2 May, 7.20pm, Duke Street Church Cafe, Duke Street, Richmond, TW9 1DH

This month we'll meet slightly earlier - 7.20pm for a 7.30pm start!

Mental health matters. At our May meeting we'll hear from a guest speaker who will talk to us about mental health and why it's so important.

This links to this year's WI Resolution, which has been selected by WIs to go forward and be considered at the June Annual Meeting; we'll decide how we want our delegate to vote for us at this meeting.

The 2018 resolution: Mental health matters

Mental health matters as much as physical health. The NFWI urges all WI members to recognise the importance of parity between mental health and physical health, and take action to make it as acceptable to talk about mental health issues as much as physical health issues, and to lobby government for better support for mental illness.

Admission: free for Richmond WI members, £3 for visiting WI members, £4 for guests.

This month we welcomed guest speakers from the beautiful botanic gardens at Kew! They talked to us about the fabulous site and the many pollinators that inhabit the Gardens. We also learnt a lot about pollinators from around the world (not just insects! Mammals also play a crucial role in pollinating plants).

They shared some gardening tips for a bee-friendly and pollinator-friendly garden - essential to help save our bees and ensure bio-diversity forever.

Link Together - 4 October 2017

Wednesday 4 October, Duke Street Church Cafe, Duke Street, Richmond, TW9 1DH

In our October meeting we talked through how we can get involved in the latest WI campaign: Link Together, a campaign to help end loneliness and social isolation.

The resolution:
This meeting calls on every WI and the NFWI to work alongside health and social care providers and their local communities to raise awareness of the causes and impacts of loneliness, thus ensuring better identification of lonely people in order to be able to offer them the appropriate support and assistance
What you can do:

Bring your ideas and put your thinking caps on to help us explore how we can contribute to this essential cause.

Admission: free to members, £3 for visiting WI members, £4 for guests.

Our September meeting saw us meet on a new day and in a new venue! We were delighted to be able to use the fabulous space at Duke Street, and look forward to many an exciting activity there going forward.

Our guest speaker at this meeting was Welsh novelist Rhidian Brook, who discussed his latest book The Aftermath, which will be released as a film starring Keira Knightley in early 2018. We invited our members to read the book (this was also our Book Club's book of the month), and encouraged all to join in the discussion.
